Transcriptional Control of Tissue of Homeostasis
Research topic(s)
The von Eyss lab (FLI, Jena)External link investigates the Hippo pathway in the context of aging, regeneration and cancer. They mainly focus on the two paralogous downstream transducers of this pathway, the coactivator proteins YAP and TAZ. YAP/TAZ are critical for regenerative processes in multiple tissues since deletion of these genes leads to a strongly impaired tissue repair upon damage. Genetically increasing YAP/TAZ activity can be exploited in order to induce regeneration in tissue which normally show a weak regenerative capacity. Since aging is accompanied by a gradual loss of regenerative potential in multiple – if not all – tissues, they aim at identifying specific upstream regulators and critical downstream targets of YAP/TAZ to counteract this phenomenon. In summary, the group aims to elucidate the in vivo functions of the Hippo pathway in aging, regeneration and cancer and to identify new avenues for its modulation.
